Advanced Long Form: The Harold
Pre-requisite: Third Coast Level 5
Learn the Harold by learning what makes each part of it work.
This class introduces the Harold as a structure for creating clear, connected, and dynamic long-form improv. Rather than simply learning the order of the form, we’ll explore the skills that make each piece work and how they build on one another.
Students will learn how openings generate material, how to pull playable premises and turn them into strong initiations, and how Game of the Scene can help identify and develop what’s interesting. We’ll explore first, second, and third beats, group games, heightening, callbacks, and finding connections across the show.
Throughout the class, we’ll focus on making purposeful choices without sacrificing the discovery and spontaneity that make long-form improv exciting. By the end, students will have a practical understanding of the Harold and the tools to create stronger scenes, develop ideas across multiple beats, and contribute to a cohesive ensemble.
Wednesdays 6:30-9:30 p.m. starting October 14th (no class Nov 4 & 25)
